Option I is for student who wish to take all their courses -some taught in English and some in French- at the Syracuse University de Strasbourg Center. This option offers a broad selection of courses in the arts and sciences, communications, economics and international business, music, and all levels of French language and literature. EU studies courses can be applied to the EU studies minor at SU.

Students with intermediate-to-advanced French language proficiency may pursue intensive language and cultural studies at the Institut International d’Etudes Françaises (IIEF) of the Université de Strasbourg. These classes are designed especially for students of many nationalities who are not yet able to study side by side with French students. Option II students enroll in 6 credits of intensive language study and additional 1-credit courses in such areas as French literature, history, political institutions, and culture.
Schedule permitting, students may combine IIEF course work with courses or internships offered through Option I at the SU Center. Qualified students may also attend select courses at the Université de Strasbourg in French literature, history, philosophy, linguistics, and phonetics. Students interested in this direct enrollment option should have junior standing with a GPA of 3.0 and should have completed at least one year of college-level French.
As the French university calendar extends beyond that of SU in Strasbourg, the program fee will be increased to cover the additional room and board costs.

Music majors have the opportunity to take applied music instruction and a course in the 20th-century music, taught in English, and to participate in an ensemble at the celebrated Conservatoire de Strasbourg. This spring -semester- only program is designed for students in their fourth semester of a Bachelor of Music or B.A. in Music degree with a GPA of 3.0. In addition to studies at the Conservatoire, students take courses in music theory, ear training, French language or literature, and electives at the SU Center. Although there are no language prerequisite, students are strongly advised to have some familiarity with the French language before arriving in Strasbourg.
