Field Studies Office – freelance lecturer

Position Description

The Field Studies Office is always on the lookout for experienced field trip lecturers to join our team. The field trip lecturer accompanies students on national visits as well as within Europe, and lectures on subjects appropriate to experience and qualifications.

The length of the assignments can vary from half a day to three full days and are allocated according to the availability of the lecturer. Some of the lectures will take place in Florence and other places in Tuscany, and will generally take place on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. Other lectures will involve overnight weekend trips to other Italian and European destinations, leaving on Friday morning and returning on Sunday evening.

Group sizes may range from 10-45 students, with one or two lecturers, and all of our groups are accompanied by a trained first aider.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare lectures for field trips in Florence, Italian and European destinations
  • Provide enjoyable and professional lectures
  • Ensure students get to know each other on the journey from Florence to the destination
  • Collaborate with the Field Trip Office on developing itineraries
  • Pick-up the information package, first aid kit and any cash needed before the trip
  • Monitor the group’s overall safety and respond to any non-medical situations which may arise
  • Communicate any medical emergencies or incidents to the emergency phone in Florence
  • Prepare budget returns in a timely manner after the trip
  • Provide timely feedback to the Field Studies Office

Requirements:

Mandatory

  • Italian citizen or legal work permit for Italy
  • Experience working with groups of US students
  • Excellent oral and written Italian and English language skills
  • Exceptional, demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Exceptional ability to remain flexible and patient in any situation
  • Team-oriented, enthusiastic, energetic and friendly
  • B.A.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of study abroad programs, international education and the U.S. academic system
  • Experience living, working, or studying abroad
  • Licensed tour guide
  • Partita IVA
  • First aid certificate
  • M.A.
