Black History Month Florence

Company Description: The cultural association Black History Month Florence (BHMF) is the administrative body that oversees the Recovery Plan Black Culture Center and its range of programs and research platforms dedicated to promoting an awareness of black cultural production within the context of Italy.

Job Description: An internship with BHMF is dedicated to developing, promoting, documenting and archiving Black History Month Florence initiatives as well as those of its related platforms such as The Black Archive Alliance, Fischi per Fiaschi, Di Palo in Frasca, and more.

Tasks: 

  • Develop graphic design strategies 
  • Create social media campaigns
  • Archival research and cataloging
  • Coordinate logistics
  • Exhibit curation and artist assistance 
  • Develop workshops and/or cultural activities
  • Community and cross-institutional outreach

Required Skills:

  • English, no Italian required 
  • Passion for art 
  • Strong cross-cultural communication skills
  • Some experience in PR/Marketing preferred 

British Institute Library

Company Description: The British Institute and it’s library have played an important role in Anglo-Florentine cultural life since 1917. Today the Harold Acton Library continues to provide a rich resource of books to borrow and browse, and it is the venue for the institute’s stimulating cultural program of lectures and films. 

Job Description: Interns assist the librarians with their daily activities.

Cimitero Evangelico Agli Allori 

Company Description: In 1878 the Florentine evangelical churches (Anglican, Battista, dei Fratelli, Lutheran, Swiss Reform, Waldensian) opened the Evangelical Cemetery “agli Allori” to give a worthy burial to non-Catholics who were not welcomed by the cemeteries of the city, especially after the closure of the English cemetery following the law that established the minimum distance of cemeteries from the inhabited center to be 100 meters. This place has welcomed and buried many important Italian and foreign figures as well as many renowned women artists, intellectuals and writers. The cemetery, therefore, offers itself as a testimony, a document of life, a monument of art, a real open-air museum that houses significant pieces of sculpture and applied arts between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Job Description: Interns will assist in research assignments as well as the daily runnings of the cemetery.

Fiesole Musei

Company Description: For this internship students will work in the nearby town of Fiesole. Projects might include work in the town’s archaeological area (which holds the most important Roman amphitheater in or around Florence) or in the Museo Archeologico. 

Job Description: Interns will help staff and curators with daily museum activities.

Tasks:

  • Assist in developing information material for visitors
  • Assist in curation 
  • Give guided tours in English

Required Skills:

  • Basic to intermediate Italian
  • Requires a bus commute

Istituto Nazionale di Studi sul Rinascimento (INSR)

Company Description: The INSR is a research institute for Renaissance studies and a member of the IRIS Consortium, a network of Florentine libraries specializing in Renaissance art history.

Job Description: Interns will work mainly with the consortium’s digital archives.

Tasks:

  • Update extensive archives 
  • Update, clean and organize databases

Required Skills:

  • Basic to intermediate Italian
  • Recommended for students of history with good organizational skills

Istituto Storico della Resistenza in Toscana (ISRT)

Company Description: The ISRT is an institute for historical research that promotes the study of the Anti-Fascist and Resistance movement as well as a greater understanding of contemporary European and Italian history through its documentary archive and library consisting of more than 50,000 books and 2,500 periodicals. The institute also organizes training courses for teachers and students. 

Job Description: Interns have the opportunity to experience a remarkable Italian cultural institution while assisting in the various projects and daily activities of the library. 

Tasks:

  • Organize archives and records 
  • Assist in library management 
  • Participate in historical education programs offered to schools and other associations

  • Intermediate to advanced Italian

Medici Dynasty Show

Company Description: The Medici Dynasty Show is a piece of multimedia theater covering 300 years of Florentine history through the lives of the Medici Family. 

Job Description: Interns will assist in show promotion, administrative work and ushering duties.

Tasks:

  • Assist administration with daily tasks
  • Develop promotional content and campaigns 
  • Assist with digital and social media marketing
  • Collect tickets and usher guests at shows
